Important updates regarding swimming pool signage

Remember when the only warning sign you would see around a pool was “OOL. Notice that our OOL doesn't have a P in it, we would like to keep it that way”?  Well that is an important sign but not really required by Law. lf you are selling a property and you have a Pool you will want to make sure that there is another warning sign.

The law requires that you have a warning sign containing a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) sign displayed near your pool. The sign must be visible at 3 metres and in good condition. From 1 September 2019 there will new wording required on the CPR sign. The new wording will need to include the following:-

“Young children should be actively supervised when using this swimming pool”, and

(ii) “Pool gates must be kept closed at all times”, and

(iii) “Keep articles, objects and structures clear of the pool fence at all times”,

(b) a simple flow chart (which may be the flow chart depicted in the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Guideline) containing details of resuscitation techniques:
(i) that are set out in accordance with the relevant provisions of that Guideline, and
(ii) that comply with the other relevant guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council,

(c) a statement to the effect that formal instruction in resuscitation is essential,

(d) the name of the teaching organisation or other body that published the sign and the date of its publication.Owners of existing pools will not be required to update their CPR signage unless the pool is substantially modified or renovated.Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the current and upcoming requirements
